Sea Gate Law Enforcement Foundation visits Tunnels to Towers.

Det. Sgt. Hector Cartegena Receives NPDF Profiles in Courage Award

On July 24th, 2025, National Police Defense Foundation Executive Director Joe Occhipinti (third from right) presented Yonkers, NY Detective Sergeant Hector Cartegena (left) and renowned criminal defense attorney Joseph Tacopina, (third from left) with the NPDF’s Profiles in Courage Award for their victory in winning a “not guilty” verdict for Sgt. Cartegena against a politically motivated prosecution in Yonkers, New York. In attendance also are NPDF Delegate George Greco (middle) along with highly respected members of the Seagate Law Enforcement Foundation, who were committed supporters of Sgt. Cartegena from the beginning. The NPDF will be collaborating with the Seagate Law Enforcement Foundation in the creation of a Legal Defense Fund to assist Sgt. Cartegena in his quest to clear his good name in response to slanderous remarks that were alleged to have been made to the media by Mayor Mike Spano after Sergeant Cartegena was acquitted by a jury who heard the evidence against him. The NPDF commends Det. Sgt. Cartegena and his very capable attorney, Joe Tacopina for their hard-fought victory. Congratulations! “

Recognizing Extraordinary Young Individuals

As the chairman of the Sea Gate Law Enforcement Foundation, I am honored to recognize four extraordinary young individuals for their outstanding achievements. Each of these young people participated in a scholarship essay contest on the topic, “What does the Second Amendment mean to you?”All these talented individuals have demonstrated their commitment to excellence not only through their essays, but also through their involvement in various after-school programs. They have worked as lifeguards, participated in the school drama club, interned for State Sen. Andrew Lanza, served as camp counselors, and engaged in altar service. Notably, some of their fathers are members of law enforcement, reflecting a legacy of public service.
